Tasmanian Tree Series — Hand-Painted Ceramic Decanter

$1,400.00
Sale price  $1,400.00 Regular price

A single cask of Trees & Rain single malt, in a decanter made and painted entirely by hand in Phil's St Helens studio. Each one is a piece of studio ceramic — closer to a small sculpture than a bottle — and no two are alike.

These aren't made to a shelf. Phil throws and paints them in very small numbers between other studio work, so the decanters are made to order. Reserve one here and Phil will be in touch personally to talk through the tree you'd like, the cask that fills it, and timing. Consider your order the start of that conversation, not the end of it.

The trees Phil paints

Each decanter is glazed with one of Tasmania's great trees, painted freehand:

  • Huon Pine — Lagarostrobos franklinii. The slowest and longest-lived of them all; some living trees were standing before the pyramids.
  • King Billy Pine — Athrotaxis selaginoides. High-country endemic, increasingly rare after fire.
  • Sassafras — Atherosperma moschatum. The scent of a Tasmanian rainforest after rain.
  • Blackwood — Acacia melanoxylon. The cabinetmaker's timber, golden in flower.
  • Fagus — Nothofagus gunnii. Australia's only winter-deciduous native tree, which turns the highlands gold for a fortnight each autumn.
  • Pencil Pine — Athrotaxis cupressoides. Ancient, gnarled, and found nowhere else on earth.

What you receive

  • One hand-thrown, hand-painted ceramic decanter, filled and sealed under red wax
  • A branded 1838 Spirits timber presentation box
  • A single cask of Trees & Rain single malt Tasmanian whisky

Because every one is made and painted by hand, small variations in line, colour and glaze are the point, not a flaw. New themes are always in the works — if there's a tree or an idea you have in mind, tell us and Phil can usually paint one to order.
